Shocking Reasons why you don’t Exercise

8 Shocking Reasons why you don’t Exercise and how you can Begin.

This article is straight to the point with a practical guide to help you start exercising even when you don’t feel like doing it.

Every year we put down many resolutions without living out any of them. Maybe your case is different in the sense that you put in the effort to keep your resolutions that most people do not.

One common resolution that has become a victim over time and that people have always ignored is the one that has to do with exercising.

How come we keep to the ones with less reward, such as spending hours on TV, scrolling aimlessly on social media, and killing time on activities that jeopardize our health while sacrificing the ones that should keep us in shape and make life easier.

They said health is wealth, but many have sacrificed health in place of wealth, not minding that they first need to be healthy to enjoy the so-called wealth.

The question now arises: what actually stops people from exercising? This question was as a result of my interaction with a friend who frequents the gym, and besides, similar questions may be running through your mind.

8 Shocking Reasons why you don’t exercise

  • You’re shy
  • Lack of time
  • Membership fee
  • You’re not just getting the results.
  • Laziness
  • No motivation
  • No need for it attitude

You’re shy: The idea of shyness may sound strange, but it’s a deep truth and a reality that I have personally witnessed over time. I remember asking a friend for a workout and she responded with ‘I’ll think about it’, and because I couldn’t fathom how going for a workout becomes a “think about it” thing, I became perplexed.

So, it was after we got to the root of the discussion that I realized that she was shy and, according to her taming, from her reason that she hadn’t gone for a workout before now, it would result in people laughing over her.I still couldn’t comprehend the whole discussion, but I encouraged her that nobody really cares.
If you’re in that same category, then it’s time to let go of such lame excuses and start exercising because, truly, nobody really cares.

Lack of time: The interesting thing about people who constantly complain about the lack of time for exercise is that they are those who spend most of their time on TV and on social media.

If you really place importance on your health, then the amount of time you spend on watching TV can swiftly be channeled to other activities where exercising is one of them.

It’s never too late to begin exercising because what really counts is the benefits you stand to gain when you include exercise in your routine.

A useful tip that you may consider is drafting a timetable that includes exercise.

For some, a morning workout is the way to begin their day, and, according to them, it helps them to be more focused and productive during the whole day.

Depending on what works best for you, the idea is to make exercise deeply rooted in your daily activities.

Membership fee: Many also complained about how high the membership fee rate is. You can always find a good fitness center that matches your budget.

Also, there are some exercises that don’t require you to go to the gym but can be done at home. You can start from home until you have the financial muscle to enroll as a member.

Fitness centers become so central in your fitness journey because there you have access to some equipment at your disposal, which makes the process easier.

I recommend that you plan ahead if you’re considering taking your fitness to a new level by saving regularly. If it is really worth it, then the idea of a membership fee shouldn’t be a barrier.

You’re Not Just Getting the Results: How painful and discouraging that can be, especially after putting in all the effort but the result is not forthcoming. Well, I can sense your frustration because I, too, have once been in such a situation, and it took some time for me to overcome.

One thing I never realized was that the result was actually coming without me realizing it until my instructor took me unaware of my first workout to prove my ignorance. And the lesson I learnt was that every workout counts.

The amount of time it takes two different people with the same body mass index (BMI) to lose the exact same amount of weight is entirely different due to many factors.

Keep exercising without losing the zeal and the “why” you started in the first place, and be more deliberate whenever you hit the gym. Again, your personal trainer may just be the right person to spot those little changes and results that you may likely ignore based on expertise.

Laziness: Not to sound rude, but you will agree with me that many people have stopped pursuing their dreams because of laziness. Laziness can come in any form, from discouragement to lack of drive, poor planning, lack of zeal, among others.

We can conclude that if laziness can stop one from exercising, then it can equally do more damage when it comes to other activities. I don’t know the formula for overcoming laziness, but the opposite [hard work] may just be what you need to ultimately defeat laziness.

Figure out those things that make you lazy and do away with them. Avoid procrastination, and you can go as far as seeking consultation, and you will realize that it’s worth it.

Lack of Motivation: Motivation is the single most important factor that keeps many people focused on their goals. It’s the same motivation that is the driving factor between the guy still exercising and the other guy that quit long ago.

Without motivation, the chances of you quitting your workout are extremely high.

I know one question you may have asked while reading this is, “How then can I stay motivated and follow through on my exercise routine?”

Here are my recommendations.

  • Set achievable goals that will inspire you when achieved, either in the short-term or long-term.
  • During your workout, switch activities that compliment your fitness goals.
  • Celebrate your success when you hit a milestone and improve on your goals.
  • Find a partner, especially one with self-determination, that can spark your interest when you feel like quitting.
  • Speak to the instructor/personal trainer

No need for it attitude. Where is your attitude? You exclaimed that not everyone is going to the gym, and so there is no point. My response is, if everyone chooses not to get fit, must it also include you? Definitely not.

The fact that most people don’t exercise shouldn’t be the reason why you choose not to exercise. I’ve always insisted that fitness should be everyone’s business and should be given a priority.

There’s actually a need for you to exercise due to its many benefits, both physically and mentally.

It’s high time you erase the “no need” attitude and start exercising, and guess what? You’ll find a good reason to keep at it.

In Summary

There will always be excuses why people don’t exercise, but there’s always a way to make exercise your lifestyle and I believe that this article will help you achieve that goal.

Achieving a healthy lifestyle means carefully planning your diet and doing regular exercise. It also means eliminating those obstacles that will hinder you from achieving your goals and requiring more intentionality, focus, grit, self-determination, and proper guidance from an experienced instructor.
